Video: NewRetroArcade: Unreal 4 and VR's mind-blowing mix

Hold on man... PUNCH the pedal!

As the gap between the average consumer and virtual reality devices slowly closes, I thought I'd give you all a quick look at NewRetroArcade, a VR time machine that can instantly transport you back to the golden years of gaming. For me, not only is this a great proof of concept for future photorealistic VR environments, but it's also one of the most immersive experiences I've had with my Oculus Rift.

Built in Unreal Engine 4, this fully interactive late 80s / early 90s arcade simulator is an incredibly detailed trip down memory lane that perfectly merges gaming history with gaming future. Looking like something you'd get round the back of a bowling alley or a laser quest, NewRetroArcade is a fully customisable arcade that can run actual arcade games or console games of the era via emulators.

Have a look at the game in action and then think about how awesome it would be to wander around a space like this using Valve's SteamVR system.

Welcome to the future! Or should that be welcome to the past? Oh no, I've gone and got myself confused again...
