DDoS attack disrupts Battlefield Hardline on Xbox One

But on the whole, Battlefield enjoys a smooth launch.

A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack has caused problems for Battlefield Hardline on Xbox One, according to publisher EA.

Visceral's first-person shooter spin-off launched last night and some Xbox One users struggled to connect online.

In a tweet from the Battlefield account, EA acknowledged the issue and said it was investigating.

Now, it's said it's working to combat a DDoS attack that affected the Xbox One version of the game.

While some Xbox One players suffered issues, it appears that on the whole the game has enjoyed a smooth launch.

We were able to play the Xbox One version yesterday - launch day - without problems, which is good news for EA after the disastrous release of Battlefield 4 back in 2013.

Battlefield 4 was riddled with problems that EA itself deemed "unacceptable", and while over the course of a year-and-a-half many of those have been addressed, faith in the Battlefield brand has been dented.

So it was that Battlefield Hardline, a spin-off that takes the gunplay of the series and places it in a gritty world of cops and criminals, needed to restore some of that faith. It appears its raft of betas have - at least on the technical side of things - shown EA has learnt from the problems faced by Battlefield 4.

Hardline may have benefited from a staggered launch. Its EA Access trial began last Thursday, 12th March, ahead of a US launch yesterday on all platforms. The game comes out in the UK this Friday, 20th March.
