Alien: Isolation gets Oculus Rift support via fan hack

In space, no one can hear you cream.

Oculus Rift has the added benefit of making you look like you're in an Alien film.

Back at E3 Alien: Isolation developer The Creative Assembly showed off a demo for its first-person horror game using the Oculus Rift. Those who played it said it was cool. Those who didn't were sad. Then the developer confirmed that this was just a tech demo and wouldn't be included in the final game. It was a sad day for Alien fans.

But it looks like Oculus owners are in luck as some clever fans on Reddit have found a way to enable Oculus Rift support in the just released game. There's further details in the Reddit thread, but here's the gist (via NeoGAF):

Apparently this even allows positional head-tracking, so you can lean around corners. Neat!

This fan-made hack still doesn't include all the bells and whistles of the E3 demo, however. That tech demo allowed you to move the motion tracker around the screen as if you were holding it in front of you.

Still, this is better than nothing and those who have tried it with this method seemed to have nothing but good things to say about it. Let us know how it goes if you give this a whirl.
