Bitmap Brothers' Z: Steel Soldiers relaunches on PC today

Old-school robot RTS revived on Steam.

The Bitmap Brothers' light-hearted robot-themed real-time strategy game Z: Steel Soldiers relaunches on PC today.

It unlocks on Steam this evening.

Digital publishers Kiss and Kavcom say they've enhanced the controls and rebooted the graphics for the latest version. You can see it in action in the video below.

The re-release of Steel Soldiers, which first came out in 2001, follows July 2014's re-release of the original Z, which first came out in 1996. The developer of both updates is TickTock Games.

Bitmap founder Mike Montgomery said: "It is so very pleasing to see the 'Z' rebrand rebooted and reworked for modern PC's and gamers. With today's technology, we have been able to deliver the experience we always wanted to."

Here's your system requirements:

  • OS: SP3, Vista SP1, 7 or 8
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 or better, AMD 64 X2 or better
  • Memory: 2GB RAM
  • Graphics: Intel GMA 950 GeForce 7 Series Radeon X1000 series
  • Hard Drive: 900MB available space
  • Sound Card: Yes

There's also a version of Z: Steel Soldiers on Google Play for Tegra-powered Android devices.

The Bitmap Brothers' games have seen a revival of sorts in recent years. A remastered version of The Chaos Engine launched in August 2013. Speedball 2 HD released on Steam on 5th December.
