Abyss Odyssey release date set for next week

Reveals PC-exclusive PvP mode in new trailer.

Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages developer ACE Team's upcoming procedurally-generated side-scrolling action-RPG, Abyss Odyssey, is slated for a 15th July release on PC and PS3 in North America. Xbox 360 users worldwide and European PS3 players will receive it the following day.

The game will go for $14.99 (about £9), though PC pre-orders go for $9.99 (about £6).

One of Abyss Odyssey's biggest selling point - besides its wonderfully stylized art nouveau aesthetic - is its rich combat mechanics that the developer likened to that of a fighting game. All enemies have a move set as robust as your own with the ability to block, parry and dodge. This is good since you have the ability to possess enemies and play as them.

The PC version of Abyss Odyssey will even have a competitive mode for up to four players. This will be available only locally at launch, but an online version is in the works. Check it out in the new PvP trailer below.

All versions of the game will feature drop-in / drop-out co-op both locally and online.

Another unique feature in Abyss Odyssey is a meta game in which a Warlock's mask will deteriorate as the player community reaches certain goals. The more wear it sustains, the more abilities your arch-nemesis will gain. So essentially the game will only get harder the longer it's out.
