Sony's Metal Gear Solid movie may finally have a director

After years of Quiet.

Sony has begun discussions with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts to helm its Metal Gear Solid movie, a new report suggests.

But who will play Snake?

The long-awaited project has been in development hell for years, but it finally looks like progress is being made, Deadline has stated.

Vogt-Roberts' only major film to date is indie success The Kings of Summer, a coming of age flick that was well received at last year's Sundance Festival.

It's unknown what time period a potential Metal Gear Solid film might focus on, or whether it will retell the story of an existing game.

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima originally secured a Hollywood deal for the franchise back in 2006, although concrete details failed to ever materialise.

Four years later and it was reported that the project had had stalled due to the "agendas" of film-makers and the game franchise's overlords failing to "match up".
