Banjo-Kazooie's spiritual successor is no longer happening

"Everyone's got other jobs."

In September 2012 a rag-tag crew of former Banjo-Kazooie developers calling themselves MingyJongo announced that they were working on a spiritual successor to the bear & bird-based N64 platformer series. Unfortunately, that project is no longer in development.

Farewell, old friend.

Series composer Grant Kirkhope - who also scored GoldenEye, Perfect Dark and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - addressed the cancelled project in a Reddit AMA.

"The other guys actually had a secret meeting in a pub near Rare and we even got as far as having a character drawn up and a demo level type thing but it all fell to bits," he stated. "Everyone's got other jobs etc."

When the project was announced, MingyJongo said it would probably be a 3D platformer in the vein of Banjo-Kazooie, but that its goal "wouldn't be to try and recreate Banjo. It would be something new." At the time the developer was considering a Kickstarter campaign, but this never came to fruition.
