UPDATE 22/04/2014: Well that didn't last long! Within a couple of days of YamaYamaDingDong setting the Spelunky world record with $3,109,850, did a man named Buddy7heElf come along and surpass it with an astounding $3,140,325.

That's pretty significant as YamaYamaDingDong's high score was only a mere $4000 over that of previous record holder Bananasaurus_Rex. By comparison, Buddy7heElf demolished the former record with a lead of $30,475. Crickey!

You can watch the entirety of Buddy7heElf's run below. The successful attempt begins at 7:30 in the first video.

ORIGINAL STORY 15/04/2014:Two months ago Spelunky savant Bananasaurus_Rex set the new world record in Mossmouth's action roguelike after beginning a game where he received the level-destroying Plasma Cannon right off the bat. Most would have choked and squandered this good fortune, but Bananasaurus_Rex kept his cool in a run that lasted nearly seven and a half hours and resulted in an astonishing final score of $3,105,850. This not only set the world record, but utterly dominated the previous record of $2,980,000. Given Bananasaurus_Rex's diligent destruction of every brick in his path to amass this $3 million-plus fortune, it was believed that this would forever remain the top score in Spelunky.
