Marvel announces The Amazing Spider-Man 2 tie-in

Next year's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie will be accompanied by a game of the same name, Marvel announced over the weekend at New York Comic-Con.

Regular Spidey developer Beenox is back working on the Amazing Spider-Man sequel for 3DS, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It's due to pop up in May 2014, the same time that the film swings into cinemas.

Key to the new installment will be a morality system, which will see Peter Parker punished for naughty deeds and rewarded for good ones.

The series' Manhattan map is also being tweaked, and there'll be a new round of challenges to beat.

It'll be the fourth Spidey game to be released by Beenox since 2010. The studio took charge of the franchise with the decent Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, and had mixed success with follow-up Edge of Time.

2012's original Amazing Spider-Man earned a similarly cautious appraisal: "If Beenox had been allowed the time to build on [the game's] foundation - to add more life and colour to Spidey's world, to construct more compelling reasons to explore and develop your abilities - then it could have earned the adjective of its title," Dan Whitehead wrote in Eurogamer's The Amazing Spider-Man review.
