£80 Ouya rival GameStick out globally 29th October

Kickstarter backers will get micro-console first.

The GameStick micro-console launches on 29th October 2013 globally, PlayJam has announced.

In the UK it costs £79.99. In North America it's $79.99.

Like Ouya, GameStick is the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign. It had been due out in June, but PlayJam delayed the launch to "meet it's own stringent QA targets".

"While to myself and the team at PlayJam the journey seems longer, we have in fact come a significant way in a very short period of time with GameStick," said PlayJam boss Jasper Smith.

"The challenge of bringing affordable gaming to the big screen has always sat at the heart of everything we do and GameStick represents a huge step forward in reaching that goal. We're extremely proud of what we have achieved and look forward to families getting their hands on devices in the run up to Christmas."

PlayJam insisted it will honour its promise to deliver GameStick to Kickstarter backers before it goes on sale in shops. Those units will ship at the end of the month, with retail following.
