Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame dated this month on mobile

PoP2 remake priced at £1.99.

Ubisoft's remake of Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame is set for release on 25th July on iOS and Android devices for a scant £1.99.

The remake - which drops the "2" from the title - sports new visuals and options for a virtual joystick or gesture-based controls optimised for the touch screen. It also introduces an enhanced combat system with multiple enemies.

Series creator Jordan Mechner wrote the "bible" for Brøderbund's 1993 sequel while he was halfway across the world in the days where game data needed to be sent via floppy disk sent by carrier pigeon. "I'm most struck by how much was kept, and how faithfully it was executed," he wrote on his blog. The question remains: Will Ubisoft's remake remain as faithful to Mechner's original vision?
