Sid Meier's Ace Patrol, a turn-based WW1 strategy game for iOS, announced

Out next week.

Sid Meier, famed creator of the Civilisation series, has a new turn-based strategy game coming out.

Ace Patrol is due out on iOS devices as a free download on Thursday, 9th May 2013.

The game is set in World War 1 era Europe. You battle in strategic air-combat scenarios, piloting the skies in defence of your base camp and allies.

Publisher 2K said Sid Meier, who works at XCOM: Enemy Unknown developer Firaxis Games, conceived, designed and programmed Ace Patrol.

The game includes 30 vintage and historical WW1 aircraft and more than 120 missions. You build a team of Aces and upgrade and promote fighter pilots. There's turn-based single-player and two-player "hot-pad" or asynchronous multiplayer through Game Center.

Firaxis is also hard at work on mobile game Haunted Hollow, due out on the App Store today, and the mobile version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, due out this summer.
