Telltale no longer rebooting King's Quest, but Activision may
Let's hope it's no Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.
Episodic master Telltale is no longer doing a series based on ye olde PC adventure game King's Quest. The licence has gone back to Activision.
"While we deeply love King's Quest here at Telltale, we can confirm that we are no longer working on the franchise," Telltale VIP Steve Allison told Digital Trends.
"There was a time last year that we investigated partnering with third-party developers to produce the game as a partnership but decided against outsourcing."
Telltale announced its intentions to reboot King's Quest back in 2011.
What Activision will do with the King's Quest IP isn't certain. Leisure Suit Larry creator Paul Trowe said he spoke to Activision about it and "they were like, 'No, we're pulling it [from Telltale] because we're going to do it ourselves". Trowe has a potential collaboration with King's Quest creator Roberta Williams lined up, hence his interest.
Telltale's Allison didn't seem to know anything more: "We are not privy to what plans Activision has for the franchise, if any," he said.
Telltale's a busy studio. The Walking Dead was a defining success and a second season is lined up for this autumn. Telltale is also making new episodic series based on DC Comics' Fables stories. This will be called The Wolf Among us.
