Here's how Splinter Cell: Blacklist's night-vision mode looks

The mind goggles.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist's night-vision mode has been shown off by developer Ubisoft in a new slice of gameplay footage.

Sam Fisher's iconic goggles are one of the first items you'll receive upon starting the game, Splinter Cell community manager Zack Cooper explained.

"You'll absolutely need and rely on them in certain parts of the game," he added.

It's a noteworthy point to make after the game's action-packed broad-daylight reveal disappointed some fans of the sneaky shooter series.

"You may have noticed that it takes a moment to adjust to the darkness. The ultimate goal is to keep it realistic," Cooper continued.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is due to launch in August for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A Wii U version has also been spotted several times, although never officially announced for release.
