Capcom cans Mega Man Online

Scrapped metal.

Capcom has officially canned its in-development Mega Man MMORPG.

Mega Man Online was announced back in 2010 as a joint venture with Korean company Neowiz Games. We've heard little about it since.

The decision to cancel the project was a mutual one, a Neowiz spokesperson told Korean site This Is Game (thanks, Kotaku).

"Both companies have continually discussed to find agreeable points on quality, development time, communication and etc," Neowiz explained. "Ultimately, both companies have agreed to stop the development of Rock Man Online early last November."

Mega Man Online would have taken place far in the future of existing games, although rebuilt versions of familiar characters would have been appeared.

Neowiz had previously boasted that the game's development was nearing its final stages, and held a contest for fans to become NPCs in the game. One winner was promised entry into an early beta test - but was never contacted with further details.
