What is Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon?

Leaked boxart points to a downloadable spin-off.

What could be a new Far Cry 3 spin-off has been uncovered by a number of leaks.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has been spotted in a ratings board listing, apparently bound for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The information tallies with earlier leaked box art and comments from Far Cry 3's writer, all of which point to the spin-off being in production.

The Brazilian ratings board rated the game as 18+ for its inclusion of drugs, sex and extreme violence, our friends over at Brasil Gamer spotted.

It tallies with Xbox Live Arcade box art dug up by NeoGAF last month, suggesting the title will be a downloadable spin-off.

There's certainly nothing on the box reminiscent of the main game's tropical island setting. Even the logo has been re-worked.

Far Cry 3's lead writer Jeffrey Yohalem has also said he is working on new content.

"I'm working on something now that will be surprising, I think, when it's announced," Yohalem told Joystiq. "But it definitely is a 'strike while the iron's hot' thing, and we'll see."

Ubisoft declined to comment on the matter when approached by Eurogamer.
