thatgamecompany's next game will be multiplatform

"I think to have a financial success... it has to be much bigger than a game on the PlayStation platform."

Journey developer thatgamecompany will be branching out of Sony platforms for its next, unannounced game.

"I think to have a financial success, that is going to change everyone, it has to be much bigger than a game on the PlayStation platform," thatgamecompany founder Jenova Chen told Polygon following his DICE presentation wherein he revealed that Journey had bankrupted the company at one point.

While the critically-lauded game went on to find commercial success - becoming the most downloaded PSN game last March, then again at the end of the year in December - it wasn't enough for Chen who sought to change the industry so that it would be a viable market for young people wanting to make "more artistic games" or "high quality, emotional games."

Though thatgamecompany has been a success, it only ever grew to a scant 12 people during Journey's creation. "I run into a lot of lost and frustrated students who study games to work on great art, but then find there is no place for them," Chen lamented. "I feel responsible for them because I showed them that is possible, but there is no place for them."

"My resolution is to create a big financial success," he added.

The report noted that Chen's next game could be played "on any platform," and that he'd received venture capital funding for it.

Little is known about this mystery project, but Chen said "Journey was focused on connection," and "I think we are trying to do one level above that with this game." He also noted that "It's very likely that's impossible."

Arguably the most eye-melting scene in Journey.
