Unlike most multi-platform games released in the twilight of this generation, Dead Space 3 on PC won't be a considerably superior version of the game on PS3 and Xbox 360.

That doesn't mean it's not as important, the game's executive producer Steve Papoutsis told ShackNews. It means it's specifically designed not to outshine its console counterparts.

"We continue to evolve our games as we develop them, but we certainly don't target PC as something that's going to be significantly different," Papoutsis said. "We aren't trying to create disparity in the experience that our gamers enjoy; we want to make sure everyone's having that same experience.

"At our studio we've always made console games," he explained. "The biggest thing is we want to make sure the quality of the experience is consistent across all platforms so we don't have one userbase saying it's better on their system."

There will be ways that Dead Space 3 can make use of more powerful machinery on PC and offer better performance and better looks. But it won't be fully optimised for PC in the way Battlefield 3 was, for example.

"The fact that we're allowing you to control the game with a mouse and keyboard immediately makes the game feel different," Papoutsis said.

He mentioned working with disabled members of the Dead Space community to include new ways to map PC controls that would work for them. This all started in Dead Space 2.

Scratching his chin (probably), Papoutsis said the accusation of Visceral being nonplussed about the PC version was "confusing".

"We seem a little bit discredited for the amount of effort that goes into it, quite honestly," he remarked. "We want it to be great on all systems, that's our approach."
