Dear Esther artist working on an "open-world S.T.A.L.K.E.R-like game without weapons"

Fancies doing it entirely on his own.

Dear Esther and Mirror's Edge environmental artist Rob Briscoe said that he'd like to single-handedly make an open-world horror game in the vein of S.T.A.L.K.E.R, only without weapons.

On the latest episode of Joe Martin's Unlimited Hyperbole podcast, Briscoe said, "I've always had this idea in my head of this kind of open-world S.T.A.L.K.E.R-ish type game, but without weapons and with this horror aspect to it. I've never had the opportunity to do it because the scope of it is huge."

Incredibly, Brisco wants to make this game by himself. "I fancy doing something on my own, something entirely of my own creation," he explained. "I wanted to kind of see if just one person could create a game just on their own to a degree that's probably not been done before."

While Briscoe is proud of his past work, he said he "felt retrained creatively" on Mirror's Edge only working on one aspect of the game. "You spend all this time making it look nice and putting this detail in - [and] you'd end up just running past it. It would just be a blur... I found that really disheartening" he lamented.

It will be fascinating to see if Briscoe can succeed at such an ambitious project, but if it ever comes to fruition, I bet it'll be astonishingly pretty based on his past work.
