Toyota creates a Kinect enabled car

Toyota has created a prototype for a car that uses Kinect.

The Toyota Smart Insect prototype has been detailed in a report by Endgadget. The futuristic-looking electric vehicle uses Microsoft's motion-sensing peripheral to recognise its owners based on their face and body shape. This will enable it to determine when to do things like open doors, because clicking that little button is way too much work for today's on-the-go lifestyle.

It also allows for voice-recognition commands with a speaker on the hood of the car, and the front and rear displays - each mounted with a Kinect - greet their owners with a welcome message, bringing us one step closer to Knight Rider.

It's important to note that this is just a prototype and may very well never go into production, but it's still amusing that Toyota implemented Kinect in a car at all. To see the Smart Insect detailed check out the video below.
