$80 bluetooth iOS controller announced, only for five Gameloft games

Apple-certified device to be stocked in tech giant's stores.

Gameloft has announced a bluetooth controller for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The device will be sold online and in Apple's shiny retail stores.

Named the Duo Gamer, the controller costs $80 (around £49). Initially, at least, it is only compatible with five Gameloft-developed games.

Duo Gamer is not the only device of its kind, but will be the first that is certified by Apple, Touch Arcade reports, and will benefit from prestigious Apple store shelf space. Amazon.com and US retail giant Target will also stock the controller.

The pad offers dual analogue thumb-sticks, ABXY buttons and a d-pad. In its box you'll also get a stand that holds your iDevice.

Games supported at the moment include Asphalt 7: Heat, Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, N.O.V.A. 3, and Order & Chaos Online.

"We've worked closely with Gameloft to ensure that Duo Gamer is optimised to the fullest extent for their rich, immersive game apps," Duo Games boss Mike Sievert said on the product's official site. "By providing gamers with the first and only console-style gamepad controller for iOS, we are giving them the ability to enjoy a 'kick back' experience while still harnessing the power and graphics capabilities that iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch offer. This will be a game-changer."
