WipEout online play will continue "while we wait for news"

WipEout 2048 Facebook page isn't a picture of conviction.

WipEout online play will continue to be supported, for now.

A post on the WipEout 2048 Facebook page read:

Here is a dog being wiped out by a wave.

"Good afternoon Pilots. As you may be aware; Studio Liverpool shut its doors on the 22nd of August 2012. It was a very sad day - the end of an era and will never be forgotten.

"While we wait for news on the future of WipEout, online play will continue to be supported and there will be plenty of WipEout community events, giveaways and goodies to look forward to!

"WipEout's passion will live on - Together we are stronger and together we will keep WipEout alive."

Exactly who's in charge of that Facebook page now, and exactly what "while we wait for news" means, I'm not sure.

But it would be bad news indeed if WipEout 2048, a Vita game released in February this year, lost online play due to Sony Liverpool's demise.

All Sony Liverpool projects were cancelled by Sony on 22nd August, and the studio was closed.

Sources told Eurogamer that Sony Liverpool had been working on WipEout for PlayStation 4 as well as a Splinter Cell-style game for PS4.
