How the Mass Effect 3 Wii U GamePad controls work

Biotics all the boxes.

BioWare has revealed how the touch-screen GamePad controller will work in the Wii U version of Mass Effect 3.

The space-opera's new touch-screen controls allow players to see a map of their immediate surroundings, with squadmates and enemies highlighted.

Four powers and abilities are arranged down each side of the GamePad screen, allowing for quick use during combat without pausing the game to bring up the quick-menu.

Last night's EA Summer Showcase marked the first time Mass Effect 3 on Wii U had been shown off in public, despite its existence being announced during Nintendo's E3 press conference.

A couple of initial screenshots showed the title's graphics to be very much on-par with Mass Effect 3 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

BioWare also announced the game would ship with an interactive comic to get new players up-to-speed with the series' story, as well as make key decisions. It's similar to Mass Effect 2: Genesis, a comic made for PlayStation 3 gamers who missed out on Mass Effect 1.

Mass Effect 3: Leviathan, the Reaper-centric DLC that Eurogamer outed last month, was also announced.
