New Sleeping Dog walkthrough shows off combat, carjacking

For an undercover agent, Wei certainly draws a lot of attention to himself.

A new Sleeping Dog gameplay video - below - released by Square-Enix shows off a sample mission in the open-world game full of driving, hand-to-hand combat, shooting and car jacking.

The walkthrough follows undercover agent Wei Shen as he helps middle-aged restaurant owner Mrs. Chu get revenge on one of the gunmen who killed her close friend at her own wedding. This involves triangulating the targets position through a driving mini-game, beating up some thugs, getting into a firefight and culminating in a good, old-fashioned car chase.

Curiously, developer United Front's producer Dan Sochan mentions that weapons are treated as a power-up. After grabbing a knife off the ground Wei stabs a man with it and tosses it aside. Why not continue to fight with it? Well, that would be too easy for a skilled martial artist like Wei.

It all looks very GTA in structure, but the melee combat resembles Batman's fluidly animated freeflowing brawling and being able to steal a new vehicle by leaping out of your car onto it looks pretty slick.

Sleeping Dogs is due for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on 17th August.
