Fortnite to debut Unreal Engine 4

The end of days... for Unreal Engine 3.

Fortnite will be the first game to use Unreal Engine 4, developer Epic Games announced at Comic-Con earlier today in San Diego.

The PC co-op survival game due out next year will task players with scavenging a sandbox environment for food and resources, then building a shelter to keep out zombies. By night, they'll work to defend their ramshackle outpost.

Structures can be built out of several materials for increasing levels of complexity. How one chooses to construct their outpost will have a big impact on how fortified it will be.

While Fortnite is currently being developed exclusively for PC, Epic head honcho Cliff Bleszinski tweeted, "Fortnite is PC primary and first, but we wouldn't rule out the possibility of other platforms later."
