Green Man Gaming merges with Playfire

Digital shop joins forces with gaming social network.

Digital shop Green Man Gaming has merged with social network Playfire.

Playfire has more than one million gamers. It allows members to track their gameplay across PlayStation Network, Steam and Xbox Live and see what their friends are playing and buying.

GMG boss Paul Sulyok told Eurogamer that as far as its customers go, little will change. But over the coming months Playfire customers will notice new enhancements, and they will be able to sign in to GMG with their Playfire account and vice-versa.

"We're going to be putting some more technical infrastructure behind Playfire in the short to medium term, and we're going to be extending the reach of Playfire, but we fully intend to run it and manage it as a separate part of the business," Sulyok said.

"We're not going to be using it as an advertising platform."

In the last 30 days Playfire customers have played 3.75 million games. The total number of game titles across all platforms, everything from the ZX81 to the PlayStation 3, is 67,000. The number of games registered by players is 80 million.
