Final Fantasy real-time tech demo offers glimpse at next-gen

The future of JRPG?

Square Enix has released a video that shows us what a next generation Final Fantasy game may look like.

The video, called Agni's Philosophy, is a Final Fantasy real-time tech demo built using Square Enix's next generation Luminous Studio engine.

It shows classic Final Fantasy character design, with Agni, the heroine, summoning a monster from the skies.

Agni's Philosophy was produced and directed by Square Enix technical director Yoshihisa Hashimoto, formerly of Sega. The character design was handled by Akira Iwata, and the creative director was Takeshi Nozue, both of whom have worked on previous Final Fantasy games.

Elsewhere in the credits, staff from Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics are mentioned, and Tetsuya Nomura is listed as a character design advisor.

"Agni's Philosophy showcases the level of quality that Square Enix is aiming for in next generation games," the Japanese company said.

Luminous Studio is a Square Enix Japan project, but the developers travelled to western Square Enix-owned studios, such as Hitman maker IO Interactive and Deus Ex: Human Revolution's Eidos Montreal, to check out other technologies.
