PSP and PS2 SOCOM servers shutting down in August

All washed up.

The servers for eight games in the SOCOM series will be shut down 31st August, 2012.

This information comes courtesy of a moderator's post at the SOCOM forum (thanks TheSixthAxis). The games affected by this termination will be:

PlayStation 2.

  • SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs.
  • SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs.
  • SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs.
  • SOCOM Combined Assault.

PlayStation Portable.

  • SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo.
  • SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 2.
  • SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3.
  • SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike.

The SOCOM series has been around for nearly a decade with the first game in the franchise, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs, having been released in August 2002, making the server shut off only four days after its 10 year anniversary.

The most recent game affected by the servers going down is SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3, which only came out in February 2010.
