Original Carmageddon game and Splat Pack heading to GOG "soon"

Free if you help fund the Carmageddon: Reincarnation Kickstarter.

The original Carmageddon PC game and Splat Pack expansion are heading to GOG.com, developer Stainless Games has announced.

They'll arrive in the "near future".

Better still, they'll be given for free to anybody who pledges $25 or above to the Carmageddon: Reincarnation Kickstarter.

Reincarnation is a remake of the original Carmageddon game. It'll launch first on PC in February 2013, then on Mac and eventually on PSN/XBLA.

NO - 20mph won't do it!

Stainless' ultimate goal is to green-light a new and full-scale Carmageddon game.

"Since we got the rights to Carmageddon back, we've been hearing from the community how much they'd love to be able to play the original games again, on a modern Windows PC," said Stainless co-founder Neil Barnden.

"We've been hearing this message even louder since launching our Kickstarter campaign to help fund our next title in the series, Carmageddon: Reincarnation. The message from the gaming community is loud and clear: give us something to play while we wait for the new Carmageddon!

"So," he added, "that's exactly what we've done."

Carmageddon first arrived nearly 15 years ago for PC (DOS). The game involves cautiously driving sensible cars while carefully avoiding pedestrians and cows. It's physics-based and sandbox approach soon earned it a name, as did the levels of ketchup generously splurged around, and ports and sequels followed.

Stainless Games' last Carmageddon game was Carmageddon 2, in 1998.
