Live action Hawken films in the works

Indie mech stunner committed to celluloid.

Eye-popping indie mech dust-up Hawken is getting a series of supporting live-action films, publisher Meteor Entertainment has announced.

Filmmaker Jerry O'Flaherty - who also served as art director on Gears of War 2 - will direct and write the CG-heavy clips, the first of which will debut at E3 in June.

"It's been a long time since a game has intrigued me and inspired me the way Hawken has and it made me eager to be a part of that world," commented O'Flaherty.

"I connected with [production company] DJ2 with a desire to participate in bringing another aspect of the Hawken world to life, specifically putting names and faces to several of the pilots driving the deadly war machines in Hawken.

"Through these characters I wanted to begin to speak to the fiction behind the game, to introduce people to a mythology that is just as interesting and intriguing as the first view of Hawken made me feel."

There's no footage from the films available yet, though see above for a behind-the-scenes shot.

The game itself is expected to launch on PC this December as a free-to-play title.
