Sonic 4: Episode 2 will be released for PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade on 15th May, Sega has annnounced.

This confirms - and slightly alters - the 16th May date spotted in a leaked video yesterday. 15th May is a Tuesday. PlayStation Network updates here on a Wednesday, so that 16th May release date may still hold.

Sonic 4: Episode 2 will cost Ł12.99 on PC, Ł9.99 on PSN and 1200 Microsoft Points on XBLA.

Sega also today announced Episode Metal Lock-On, an unlockable chunk of story exclusive to owners of both Sonic 4: Episode 1 and Sonic 4: Episode 2.

Episode Metal Lock-On consists of four acts that bridge the gap between Sonic CD, Sonic 4 and the origins of Metal Sonic. You'll play as Metal Sonic, clunk clunk clunk. That's the sound of him running.
