Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion details revealed

Disney has revealed the first details on Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, set for release on Nintendo 3DS this autumn and developed by DreamRift in collaboration with Junction Point.

It features painting and 3D transformation capabilities "designed to give players the unique ability to create objects and even characters they can place in the world of Wasteland". You can create rough versions of objects that transform into classic Disney style 2D illustrations. You can then move your creation to the 3DS' top screen where they are transformed into full colour, fully rendered 3D visuals.

Disney said the game "pays tribute" to the classic Sega Mega Drive platformer Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. Power of Illusion revolves around the Castle of Illusion, which has fallen into Wasteland, the alternate world that provides the setting for Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2.

The evil witch Mizrabel, who was the big bad boss in Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, is the big bad boss in Power of Illusion. You play Mickey Mouse to save the world from her horrible plans.

Junction Point boss Warren Spector said: "The original Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse changed the face of video gaming by allowing players to play as Mickey Mouse in a side-scrolling adventure full of dynamic environments.

"We're honoured to be able to pay tribute to this classic video game by creating a title that truly takes advantage of the unique capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS, putting the magic of Disney and the historic Castle of Illusion in the palm of your hands."
