Editor's Blog: In Memory of Allie Fraser

Appeal for EG regular FooAtari, who lost battle with lymphoma last week.

It is with great sadness that we report what many members of our community will know already: long-time Eurogamer regular Alistair Fraser passed away one week ago, on 1st November, after losing a painful battle with lymphatic cancer. He was 30 years old.

Allie Fraser was known to his fellow forumites as FooAtari, and was an avid PC gamer and motorsport fan. (He's remembered in a forum thread.) He had been keeping a blog called Hospital Musings where he documented his day-to-day struggle with lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. Allie's wife Susan concluded the story in a final post earlier this week.

Allie's story is sadly not an unusual one. Lymphoma is the fifth most commonly diagnosed cancer and the most common in the under 30s; 12,500 cases are diagnosed each year in the UK, according to the Lymphoma Association.

Although a video games website makes an odd platform for such issues, we wanted to pay tribute to Allie, and thank him for his support and company over the last seven years, by doing our bit to raise awareness of lymphoma and by encouraging you to make a donation to one of his favourite charities:

Friends of ANCHOR, which raises money for the Aberdeeen and North Centre for Haematology, Oncology and Radiotherapy at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

You may also wish to consider a donation to Cancer Research UK.

RIP, Foo.
