Netflix to launch in UK and Ireland

Early 2012.

Netflix has announced plans to launch in the UK and Ireland in early 2012.

The Lovefilm rival will offer TV show and movie streaming over the internet to TVs and computers for a monthly subscription.

Netflix said today you'll be able to use the service on your TV via a "range of consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix", as well as on PCs, Macs, tablets and mobiles.

It will announce pricing, content and supported devices closer to launch.

Lovefilm, already on PlayStation 3 and heading to Xbox 360 soon, will no doubt keep a close eye on Netflix's expansion. In the US Netflix is available on PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360.
