Unreal Engine 3 now supports Flash

Watershed moment for browser gaming?

Unreal Engine 3 now supports Adobe's web-based Flash Player 11, Epic has announced.

During an Adobe event in Los Angeles earlier today, technical director Tim Sweeney showed a live demo of Epic's Unreal Tournament 3 running inside the famous browser plug-in.

With social game developers traditionally relying on Flash, this means that, in theory, you could be seeing AAA 3D games running on Facebook and Google+.

"With UE3 and Flash, games built for high-end consoles can now run on the web or as Facebook apps, reaching an enormous user base," explained Sweeney.

"This totally changes the playing field for game developers who want to widely deploy and monetise their games."
