FIFA 12 sells 3.2 million in a week

Biggest EA Sports launch ever.

FIFA 12 sold an estimated 3.2 million copies worldwide in its first week on sale, EA has announced.

That total, "based on internal estimates", makes it the biggest launch in EA Sports' history, with sales up 23 per cent on last year's game.

It's unclear whether EA is counting 879,000 sales of the iOS version in its sums.

On top of that, 1st October was apparently the busiest day of online gaming ever for EA Sports, with an estimated 10 million games sessions taking place, of which eight million were for FIFA 12.

"FIFA 12 is a stunning achievement by our team at EA Canada," commented EA Sports VP Andrew Wilson.

"The massive FIFA online community has overwhelmingly connected to the new live services in the game, including EA SPORTS Football Club, and we intend to keep them engaged all season long as FIFA 12 follows the heartbeat of the football season."

Earlier this week, we learned that FIFA 12 had the third biggest launch of any game ever in the UK, behind Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2.
