FIFA 12 third biggest UK launch ever

Sold more than GTA IV.

EA's gargantuan FIFA 12 sales make it the third biggest UK video game launch ever.

FIFA 12 ousts previous third-place holder Grand Theft Auto IV. In their release weeks, only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops sold more.

This year FIFA 12 sold 18 per cent more during its launch period than FIFA 11, which translates into 34 per cent more revenue.

Software sales were dominated by Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. Microsoft's machine had the edge with 54 per cent of FIFA 12 units sold (up 27 per cent). Sony's system counted for 44 per cent (up 11 per cent).

Sales of FIFA 12 on other formats (PC, 3DS, PSP, PS2 and Wii) counted for just two per cent of the total, according to Chart-Track, although PC download sales aren't counted.

Eurogamer plays FIFA 12.
