Steam Dead Island an Xbox 360 dev build?

Update: Patch will rectify matter.

Update 2: A post by Deep Silver on the Dead-Island.com forums suggests a patch will remove the develop options from the Steam version of the game.

"As far as I know, the planned patch for today remove the developer options," wrote "Gadwyn", who is tagged as Deep Silver staff.

"I cannot say yet, to what extent this affects the game."

Gadwyn apologised to North Americans for releasing a faulty version of Dead Island. Europeans will have a fully patched version by Friday.

Update 1: Dead Island developer Techland has responded to Eurogamer.

"Techland is currently investigating this information and we'll do everything we can to make sure everyone can enjoy playing their copy of Dead Island," a spokesperson told us.

"Deep Silver is a part of every release process and any further updates will come from the game's publisher."

Original story: An incorrect version of Dead Island may have been released on Steam.

XML code suggests the Steam version of Dead Island may be a ported development build of the game.

Members of the Steam forum picked out a tell-tale line of XML code. This referred to the Steam version as an "Xbox Live Submission Project Version".

Gamers have suggested this is why cheat mode and "noclip" (floating through walls and ceiling) can be enabled in the Steam version. Is this why there are so many bugs?
