How to get your 3DS Ambassador games

10 free NES titles in Europe now.

Nintendo's 3DS Ambassador programme kicks off today, rewarding pre-price drop adopters with 10 NES titles absolutely free.

How do you claim your rewards? It's a somewhat convoluted process.

Nintendo has added the 10 games to eligible owners' Download History - making them available to "redownload" for no charge.

What do you need to do?

  1. Launch the eShop application
  2. Hit the app's Menu button
  3. Scroll to the final option - Settings/Other
  4. Click on Titles You've Downloaded
  5. Select the game you want, then hit "Redownload"

Games must be downloaded individually and Nintendo has warned download speeds could be slow today due to demand.

What do you get? Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climbers, The Legend of Zelda, Wrecking Crew, NES Open Tournament Golf, Mario & Yoshi, Metroid and Zelda II - The Adventure of Link.

How much space will this hog? Not much - just 311 blocks (about 38MB) for all 10.

Are these the full games? No - Nintendo is calling these "priority delivery versions". They are missing a few features, notably saving restore points - although you can still quit to the Home menu while playing. Official versions of the games will be launched later for a fee, although 3DS Ambassadors will be able to upgrade free of charge.

Bought a 3DS before 12th August but failed to connect it online to register? Nintendo has promised you'll soon be able to prove your worthiness online if you retain your proof of purchase.

What happens next? Nintendo will launch the remaining half of the Ambassador award programme - 10 free Game Boy Advance titles - before the end of the year.
