Sign-up for RTS sequel DOTA 2's open beta has commenced.

Though Valve hasn't confirmed when the test will begin, it's inviting fans to register their interest now through the game's official site.

The follow-up to the beloved 2003 Warcraft III mod makes its first public appearance at Gamescom in Germany this week, with a $1 million tournament featuring 16 of the world's best DOTA teams.

The finished game is expected to launch on PC before the end of 2011.
