You won't be given the choice between a gloss or a matte Xbox 360 250GB - all future Xbox 360 S consoles will be matte only.

Microsoft confirmed this via the blog of Xbox Live's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.

The switch to matte will happen "over the coming weeks".

"Some of the news outlets that covered it mentioned having a choice between matte and glossy Xbox 360s this holiday," wrote Hryb.

"I wanted to set the record straight and let everyone know that that is not the case."

"We are actively transitioning all our Xbox 360 S consoles to a matte finish," he added.

"The consoles will start to arrive in stores over the coming weeks, so if you really love the idea of a glossy console don't wait much longer."

Gloss Xbox 360s will still be available but as part of Limited Edition console bundles, such as those for Gears of War 3 (black/red) or Star Wars Kinect (white).
