The iOS port of ace PSP strategy epic Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions has been delayed back to next month.

According to Square Enix's Facebook page, the game needs a little more time in the oven and will now launch in late July as opposed to late June as previously announced.

The game's producer also revealed that it will not be a universal app. An iPad version will follow a month or so after the iPhone release.

You'll need an iPhone 3GS or above to play and, alas, the original's multiplayer mode has been lopped off.

Still, the remake of the remake of the 1997 PSone original should be a near-essential purchase nonetheless.

"Gorgeous, complex, well-written and beautifully presented, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions has been polished and refined to make it into the best version of one of the best games of the 1990s," wrote Rob Fahey in Eurogamer's War of the Lions review.
