Square Enix has confirmed that young boy Noel Kreiss will be joined by other new major characters in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Noel is the main character of Final Fantasy XIII-2, but art director Isamu Kamikokuryo told Famitsu, translated by Andriasang, that there will be other new main characters.

Who these new main characters are, however, remains a mystery.

XIII-2 is set five years after the events of FFXIII. Lightning has disappeared. Her younger sister Serah Farron sets out with Noel to find her.

Kamikokuryo said characters from the divisive Final Fantasy XIII will return, slightly grown up, which should make Hope a little easier, to, er, look at.

Final Fantasy character designer Tetsuya Nomura handled character faces, the interview revealed, while bodies and clothing were handled by other Final Fantasy series art directors.

Moogles are in, and lead art designer Toshitaka Matsuda's design was chosen for the cute... things.

The game is set for release in Japan in December. Fred Dutton went hands-on for Eurogamer's Final Fantasy XIII-2 preview.
