Trion's Syfy MMO named Defiance

Openworld shooter for PC, PS3, 360.

Rift maker Trion has announced its Syfy collaboration project as Defiance.

It's an ambitious-sounding openworld shooter MMO for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

It's even more ambitious for linking to a Syfy television series also called Defiance. The two pieces of entertainment, game and film, will influence each other and evolve together over time.

The Defiance telly series will be made by Universal Cable Productions and written by Rockne S. O'Bannon of Farscape, Seaquest DSV, Alien Nation and Warhouse 13 fame.

Defiance takes place on a futuristic vision of Earth, where humans and aliens co-exist. The planet itself, however, has been ravaged by conflict.

Trion boasts "intense action of an AAA console shooter" as well as the "persistence, scale and customisation of an MMO".
