EA pledges allegiance to Wii U

"Imagine a shooter like Battlefield."

EA boss John Riccitiello has announced an "unprecedented partnership" with Nintendo and new console Wii U.

He described the console and its controller as a "stunning breakthrough in game technology".

"Imagine a shooter like Battlefield with jaw-dropping graphics" on a Nintendo system, he said, teasingly.

"Imagine those games with an open online functionality." Riccitiello went on to add that Wii U had "deeper online functionality".

Riccitiello didn't confirm any specific EA games for Wii U, but a showreel before his appearance aired many games common to Xbox 360 and PS3. EA's entire future portfolio could translate to Wii, theoretically.

"Nintendo's new console is truly transformational as well," said Riccitiello, "a better platform than we've ever been offered by Nintendo."

"We can't wait to see EA games on this new system."
