DeathSpank: The Baconing announced

Due on PC, PSN, XBLA this Summer.

A third dose of the OTT RPG DeathSpank franchise lands on PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this summer, developer Hothead Games has announced.

Subtitled The Baconing, it apparently tasks you with seeking out the Fires of Bacon and destroying the evil power of the thongs.

You can expect four new bosses to face off against, a new sidekick called Bob from Marketing and a number of new locations to explore, including The Forest of Tomorrow and Barnacle Lake.

A few gameplay innovations have been added in too, most notably a revamped battle system. You'll now be able to knock down your foes with a shield bash, deflect ranged weapons back at enemies or charge your attacks for massive damage.

According to Kotaku, the game's AI has also been improved. This time out your enemies will try and flank you, while smarter healers will keep the opposition alive for longer.

Hothead is promising 100 new quests, more than 70 characters, at least 80 new weapons and a new 'insane' difficulty level.

The first two games in Ron Gilbert's action RPG series launched in relatively quick succession last year. The original scored a middling 6/10 from Eurogamer, while its follow-up, Thongs of Virtue, managed 7/10.

Earlier today, Hothead announced it's also working on a new Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy game.
