"Outside possibility" no SW:TOR this year

EA doesn't want to tip off competitors.

There's an "outside possibility" that Star Wars: The Old Republic will not launch this year, publisher EA has admitted.

At an investor event yesterday EA said that it expected the BioWare-developed MMO to go live in 2011 but conceded an "outside possibility of a January launch."

Games chief Frank Gibeau went on to explain EA's reluctance to pin down a firm release date for the title.

"Everyone is waiting for us to announce the ship date. Sorry, but that's not going to happen today," he explained.

"We're holding the date for two reasons. First, we don't want to tip off the competition; second, we want more data from the beta test to guarantee a spectacular experience at launch."

For a better of idea of just how spectacular that experience might be, take a look at our new hands-on preview published earlier today.
