SSFIV Arcade Edition PC a "just cause"

Capcom: PC gamers "back in the family".

Capcom has described the release of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition on PC as a "just cause".

At its Captivate event Capcom ended months of speculation when it confirmed the launch of a PC version of the game.

It had looked unlikely. Last year producer Yoshinori Ono said Capcom were put off of releasing the game on PC after Street Fighter IV suffered from piracy – despite a compatible version being 99 per cent complete.

But Capcom had given PC gamers a glimmer of hope when in January the company's US boss said he was "cautiously optimistic" that Super Street Fighter IV PC would materialise.

Now it's a reality, Capcom has told Eurogamer it's delighted to welcome PC gamers "back in the family".

"I don't want to call it fan service, but I'll say there's a multi-thousand page thread on the Ask Capcom section of Unity that haunts me all the time," Capcom's fighting game guru Seth Killian said.

"Why no Super Street Fighter IV on PC? I always felt bad because I never really had a great answer to it. There are all sorts of internal complications that result in different situations, so when we knew we were going to be able to do that we were really happy.

"I know there are a lot of people who play on PC. That's their platform of choice and they want to be involved.

"Also, there are a lot of things you can do on a PC that are more difficult on a console. I'm just happy those guys are going to be back in the family.

"It's a vocal minority, but the whole world is made up of nothing but vocal minorities. We're all part of a vocal minority.

"It was a just cause. We're in a lucky position of having people who are passionate about having access to our games on the platform they play on. We want to make that happen as often as we can. It's not usually as simple as we wish it was, but I'm really happy and it's going to be a great version."

While Killian was unable to reveal recommended or minimum specifications for the PC version, he did say it'll run on a wide variety of machines.

"I do not have an ultra powerful PC and I've got it running and it runs great," he said. My work PC is definitely no powerhouse, and it's running it fine."

The launch of Arcade Edition on PC is part of Capcom's wider push on the PC platform.

It intends to launch PC versions of Street Fighter x Tekken and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.
