Nintendo announces UK 3DS sales figures

Fastest-selling Nintendo console ever in UK.

The Nintendo 3DS sold 113,000 units during its first two days on sale in the UK, Nintendo has announced.

The sales figure beats the UK launches of the Wii (105,000) and Nintendo DS (approximately 87,000), making the Nintendo 3DS the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever in the UK.

Sony's PlayStation Portable holds the UK console launch record – it shifted 185,000 units during its launch window in 2005.

The Nintendo 3DS UK launch sales figure comes in short of the 140,000 3DS pre-orders Nintendo announced it had received before the console went on sale last Friday.

It means at least 27,000 pre-orders failed to translate into sales.

Analysts had predicted the Nintendo 3DS would enjoy the biggest console launch ever in the UK.

Nintendo UK marketing manager James Honeywell said last week that the company expected to sell "comfortably over 150,000, if not more like 200,000″ 3DS units in Britain last week, based on confirmed pre-orders of 140,000.

Across Europe the glasses-free 3D handheld shifted 303,000 units in its first two days on sale. It's Nintendo's fastest-selling handheld device over a two-day period across the continent.

Nintendo of America has already confirmed that 3DS's US launch beat that of the DS, but has so far failed to announce a specific figure.

3DS launched in Europe last Friday, and in the US on Sunday.
