Xperia Play games priced from £1-10

Sony's phone will offer "something different".

Games for Sony Ericsson's PlayStation-friendly smartphone, the Xperia Play, could cost as much as £10.

UK Sony Ericsson marketing boss David Hilton told MCV, "The smaller, lower-tier games will be around £1 to £2 and a more complex game could be up to £10.

As previously reported, the phone comes preloaded with Bruce Lee Dragon Warriors, Tetris, Star Battalion, FIFA 10, The Sims 3 and Crash Bandicoot. 50 more titles will be available from the new PlayStation Suite at or near launch, some of which will be PSone classics and others optimised smartphone staples.

Hilton went on to explain how the device's traditional thumbstick-and-buttons set-up would help the phone compete with more established iOS and Android devices.

"The main thing is to offer something different," he insisted.

"iPhone is a hugely popular product and Angry Birds on iPhone is a delight. But now the hardware allows you to play far more complex games. You don't want to be playing these with your fingers all over the screen. You want full visibility and the ability to control the games with the sort of interfaces you have on your games console."

The Xperia Play arrives in the UK on 31st March through all major UK networks.
